By no stretch of the imagination are we Biblical scholars, we are just two girls who love Jesus and have a hunger and a thirst for His Word. Scripture Sunday will be a weekly feature in which we share the ways in which Jesus is speaking to our hearts through His Word.
The Armor of God
– belt of truth
– breastplate of righteousness
– feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace
– shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one
– helmet of salvation
– sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God
The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
I pray that as we face challenges in the coming weeks and months, that we will remember the power that we have through You, the power that You have given us and sealed us with through Your Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13) that resides within us. When life gets hard please help us to remember that you have given us full armor which with to deflect and defeat the schemes of the enemy.
God, please help us to remember to put on Your armor, beginning with the belt of truth. We know that Your Word is truth (John 17:17), that Your Son Jesus Christ is the truth, and that He is the way, and the truth, and the life. (John 14:6)
We thank you for the breastplate of righteousness that has been provided to us through the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ.
God, we pray that our feet may be fitted with readiness; readiness to listen for and respond to your voice. We pray that we will have open hearts to receive your call daily and open hands to pass on Your love and Your life. God, we thank you that everyday you arrange for us divine appointments and we pray that we will always be open and ready for anything you may place in front of us.
God, we thank you for the shield of faith. We thank you that you have given us defensive weapons but we also know that if we will stay on the offensive, by soaking the shield of faith that you have given in the living water of your Son Jesus Christ (John 4:14, John 7:38) through Your word, the word that is Jesus Christ, we know that a shield soaked in the living water of faith will be able to extinguish those fiery arrows and darts from the evil one.
God, I thank you also for the helmet of salvation. We know that salvation begins in the heart but I thank you that you provide a way for us to protect our heads, our minds against the enemy; against the father of lies, the deceiver, (John 8:44) who tries to burrow into our minds and twist and contort Your promises. God, please help us to always turn to your word for truth, your word for life.
And, finally, God, we thank you for the sword of the Spirit, which is your word. God, I thank you that Your word is living and active. I thank You that Your word is sharper than any two edged sword. I thank You that Your word pierces and divides to judge the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
And I thank You that Your word, once it goes out, will never return empty. (Isaiah 55:11) I thank you that when we get in Your word, Your word will get in us. Thank you that Your word will be written upon our hearts that we might not sin against You. (Psalm 119:11)
In Jesus’ name,
My name is Tara. I am a mama, a wife, a teacher, a sister, a daughter, and most importantly a follower of Jesus and a child of God. I have two little boys who love to run and jump and yell and scream and seem to love being attached to their Mama; Smith who is 6 and Charlie James who is 3. I have also been blessed with a “bonus” child, my stepdaughter Kaleigh, who just turned 12 and does her best to tolerate the antics of her little brothers.
