We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe and the evil one cannot harm them.
1 John 5:18
I was prepared to write a post today to go along with The Loved Bible Project verse of the day. But when I read what Herminia has written I knew that her words needed to be shared with you today.
In this time of great uncertainty and unrest in our country, when many of us feel as if we are drowning in the fear and hate being spread by the enemy Herminia’s words serve as such a strong and powerful reminder of who we are and whose we are.
Because of Jesus, we are safe.
From Herminia …..
Many years ago I heard a pastor preach on our home being a sanctuary. He said our homes should be a place of refuge for our children. Our children should know that when they are home they are loved and protected from the noise and pressures of this world. They should feel safe.
God our Father wants the same for you. Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us that we should be called children of God! (1 John 3:1). If you have given your life to Jesus, you are His child. He loves you. He has adopted you. He will protect you. The evil one cannot harm you. You are safe.
In the book of 1 John, the church appears to be having an identity crisis. There are false teachers teaching odd things and John wants to make sure these young Christians remain strong and united. He arms them with truth and reassurance.
John had to remind the Church of what they already knew. Jesus came in the flesh. Jesus is God. Jesus died and rose again. If you hear anything different, it is false. He repeatedly spoke truth to them, over and over again, so that when they heard false teaching they would recognize it and not be led astray. He also had to give them reassurance. He reminds them of what they know, where they’ve been, what they’ve seen and most importantly whose they are. It is no different with us. Daily we hear and see things that cause our hearts to grow weary, confused, afraid, anxious and unworthy. These are enemy tactics. Fill your hearts and mind with truth so that when the enemy tries to feed you lies, you wont believe them and you won’t be led astray. The truth is your sanctuary.
These are some truths that John shared about our identity in Christ.
Your sins are forgiven (2:12)
You know him who is from the beginning (2:13)
You have overcome the evil one (2:13)
You know the Father (2:13)
You are strong (2:14)
The word of God lives in you (2:14)
You are anointed by the Holy Spirit (2:20)
You know the truth (2:21)
You have eternal life (2:25)
You are loved (3:1)
You are a child of God (3:1)
He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. (4:4)
You are born of God (4:7)
You have His Spirit. (4:13)
You are an overcomer (5:4-5)
You have victory (5:4)
You have life in His Son (5:11)
You can ask anything in His name and He hears you. (5:15)
You are Safe. (5:18)
The wicked one can not touch you (5:18)
Your actions and behaviors are a reflection of what you believe.
Stop trying to fix yourself.
Stop listening to the lies of the enemy.
Fix your eyes on Jesus.
Know your identity in Christ.
He has given you the victory.
In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.
1 John 4:16
I am safe.
