I thought it was time to put my thoughts together and share with you one of my latest battles in hopes that you could find some relief in that you are not alone. You see, it’s been very loud in my head for quite some time and even though a lot was of good, a lot was not. The result, noise. Paralyzing, loud noise.
Does it ever get too loud in your head? You know, with stuff like opinions, advice, worries, and questions? Stuff like, Facebook updates and text messages? And I’m even talking about the really good stuff too like late night sermons online, blogs, books, and bible studies?
It can all start to run together and what you hear is an overload of noise that causes confusion or fear and the result? An overflowing heart of anxiousness and despair. It starts to become too much to hear and begins to torment rather than help. Your questions and concerns with too much research and advice and crying and noise can start to tear your spirit down rather than give you the answer you long for.
Has this ever happened to you? Has there ever been a decision you need to make, a change in your life, a habit to break, or a relationship that needs to be mended and instead of taking a step or making a choice, you just soak up the noise and cower in fear?
I know, me too. And when I’m at the end of my rope, I always realize the same thing. The same thing that I should have started with. God’s whispers silence all the noise. I remember that no one can tell me the answer or provide the undeniable comfort and give the right direction like His sweet voice can. That when I feel the Holy Spirit telling me the answer, don’t deny it. Don’t argue you with it. Don’t justify it to others. Just move. Just listen. Just respond.
I don’t know what decision you are trying to make today that seems like the weight of the world follows the answer, but what I can assure you of is above all, truth prevails. Scripture doesn’t lie. The Holy Spirit is real. He loves me just the same as everyone else and He doesn’t withhold knowledge from His beloved. And that goes for you too. And when you’ve begged in prayer for help and answers, don’t deny it when it comes. Don’t ignore what you already know is right. Don’t weaken your power as a child of the King by drowning out your own one on one conversation with God by replacing it with the noise of the world.
I truly believe that Godly advice, love from people, prayers by all are necessary to build support and community but at the end of the day, please do not doubt your own relationship with God and the answers only He can give straight to your heart. I’ve done it many times. I’ve tormented my spirit with doubt and noise way too much. And the end result is always the same. I have to make a choice to respond to God personally. Regardless of what is going on around me. And then, peace soothes my soul once again.
Life is difficult dear friends. Choices have to be made daily. Some big, some little. Relationships are tested, jobs are questioned, ministry is challenged. But the help and the answers come when are face is planted in the Word and when we respond to what we are being told by the most loving sound, our Heavenly Father.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
