Anyone wanna come to my house for a Bible study? This is my first time ever doing one of these ….
And, it feels kinda strange to just put this invitation out there to whomever may be reading this but most of our blog readers are people we know – either friends of myself or Melissa so I feel I’m okay – I’m smart enough not to post my address for the whole world to see 😉
As you may know – I became a follower of Christ a little later in life – almost two years ago now – and during this time I have been reading my Bible, I have read lots of Christian books, and I have watched and listened to a lot of Christian sermons and speakers, but this is the first time I have ever done an actual Bible study with an actual Bible study journal.
I know it’s a little silly but I’m having a moment so indulge me, would you?
Anyway, I have chosen as my first ever Bible study Seamless by Angie Smith. I found this particular Bible study through Proverbs 31 Ministries and I have watched some of Angie’s videos and I really identify with her. She, too, became a Christian as an adult and she, too, has struggled with Chasing God (her newest book that I have just started reading and am already loving) through intellectualizing and over-thinking and striving to understand everything about Him when really He just desires for us to know Him.
So here are a few quotes I wanted to share from her introductory video in the DVD series –
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
– AW Tozer
How do you perceive God? What do you believe the character of God to be?
“The Bible or religion isn’t meant to make us feel guilt and shame. We should feel responsibility and repentance but overall we must see His grace.”
“The gap between who we are and who He is is actually meant to bring gratitude not shame.”
“It (the gap) is meant to point us toward our Heavenly father and to give us eyes to see Him as the one who loved us enough to bridge it (the gap) once and for all.”
So – this may be weird, but if you live close to Hudson, NC and you wanna come join in, come on! But this invitation comes with a few disclaimers ….
1 – as stated previously I have never before lead a Bible study so I have no clue what I’m doing, but that’s okay! We’ll figure it out together!
2 – If you can’t commit to a 7 week study – that’s okay too!! Come when you can! Seriously – this is so low stress, no pressure!
3 – and finally, and most importantly, if you do come to my house you must be okay with imperfection. My house is real. 😉 We have dirty carpets littered with legos and power rangers, cardboard boxes that have yet to be unpacked from our move in February, and countless interruptions by little boys and/or a small, yappy dog – I am not the greatest hostess but I will do my best 😉
So here’s when we are meeting ….
Tu June 16
Tu June 23
M June 29
Sun July 5
Tu July 14
Tu July 21
Tu July 28
If you are too far away to come or too over-committed to fit anything else into your schedule I will be sharing some posts from the study along the way ….
Here are a few video clips from the DVD series as well as a link to the book ….
And if you are interested, or if you would like to know more – just shoot me a message and come on over!
Thanks so much!!
