I am thrilled to be guest posting today on Nicki Koziarz’ blog as part of her “Friends on Friday” series. You can pop over here: http://nickikoziarz.com/blog/ to check it out. And if you comment you’ll be entered to win a $25 itunes gift card.
Writing this piece wasn’t easy. At all. I am not one of those people who “always knew I would be a writer” or “have written all my life” or “had a childhood dream of writing a book someday.”
Nope. Not me. Not at all.
About a year ago I felt God instructing me to “use your voice.” He wasn’t any more specific than that. “Using your voice” can take many forms. I don’t know where this path may eventually lead but, for now, the first way to be obedient to His call has been to jump in with Melissa and begin this blog.
Over the past year some posts have flown from my fingertips, others have taken days and weeks to get “just right”, and others have been altogether abandoned along the way.
If you have been reading since the beginning you may have noticed long stretches in which I did not write. I am great at making excuses and for coming up with reasons that I am unable to write but, honestly, most of it is nothing more than laziness and procrastination.
Which is why, it was important for me to make a commitment and to publicly declare that this year I will post twice a week.
In order to make that happen I am going to follow three simple steps:
- Let go of perfection
Sounds so easy, right? 😉
We’ll see. 😉
In addition to writing here over the past year I have also been blessed with several opportunities to guest post on other blogs. While writing for my own blog wasn’t always a piece of cake writing for someone else has been so much harder!
Don’t we all play the comparison game?
These are the thoughts that have run through my mind:
She’s been blogging so much longer than I have.
She has so many more followers, email subscribers, etc.
She has written an actual BOOK!!
She is such a better writer than me.
What if this piece isn’t good enough?
What if I’m not good enough?
What if she doesn’t like what I wrote?
What if she doesn’t like me?
So many times I have wanted to give in, to quit, to email the blogger and make up some excuse as to why I would be unable to submit my post. I think I spent just as much time concocting excuses as I did working on the actual piece.
But, here’s the thing, if God told me to “use my voice” then I have to use my voice.
If I quit I am not just allowing an opportunity for myself go to waste, I am allowing an opportunity to be obedient to God go to waste.
But, gosh, how many times have I wanted to quit ….
If you can relate to wanting to quit, to making excuses, to giving in and giving up then you need to read Nicki Koziarz’ first book:
“5 Habits of a Woman Who Doesn’t Quit”
#5HabitsBook (see what I did there) will be released on March 1, 2016 and I am beyond thrilled to have been selected to be a member of her launch team! I can’t wait to share more with you in the coming weeks.
Y’all, I have quit so many things in my life!
school (my mom especially was not amused by my tour of colleges)
jobs (again – mama not pleased)
relationships (including my first marriage – mama was okay with that one)
and diet after diet after diet!
So I can totally relate to Nicki’s message in this book!
Being a bit of an online stalker 😉 it has been so cool to follow Nicki’s journey throughout the process as she has written her first book. I have only spoken with her face-to-face once but I feel like I know her.
She seems “real.” She doesn’t pretend to have all the answers or to have her life all pulled together. I appreciate how open and transparent Nicki is as she shares her own doubts and struggles. Through her vulnerability in admitting her own imperfections she offers freedom for me and you to do the same.
Thank you Nicki for being such an inspiration to me and to so many others. I can’t wait to share your message with my little corner of the world!
Nicki shares part of her story on her blog. You can find it here:
